Ownership and Funding in TV and Film

Radio and TV broadcasting:

Radio broadcasting (experimentally from 1906, commercial from 1920)
TV broadcasting experimentally 1925, commercial 1930s, seen as a direct competitive to radio at that time, and was an evolution from the TV industry in fact BBC, NBC and CBS all started out with radio.

At first the major studio in Hollywood saw television as a threat and Warner Brothers for instance did not want to show television in movies.

1928 - The first television station was set up in the US by General Electric and was known as WGY television and WNBC. Later they became WNBC part of the NBC network one of the biggest television networks in America. At the stage of broadcasting was merely experimental.

NBC is to television just like the Warner Brothers is to Motion Picture. Both are owned by even larger multinational coperations.

1930 - BBC begins regular transmissions.

1936 - BBC television Service began High Definition Service in Alexandra Palace.

BBC today remains strictly non-commercial, public and not private.

1950 - Colour tv were introduced but failed to become popular until the late 1960s.

1956 - First TV Remote introduced by Robert Adier.

1962 - AT&T created the Telestar, which is the first satellite system to carry TV Broadcast this, nothing TV international.

1969 - First TV transmission from the moon (landing).

Late 1970s - Home Video Recorder, cassettes were introduced.

1980s - CNN launches first all news network . Stereo sound to transmission and Dolby Surround Sound for TV's introduced.

1990s - Cable TV introduced in the 40s and began to take wide promenance in the 80s and 90s in Malta.

2000s - Conventional of Analoge to Digital TV  started to take place. This allows for the more information to be passed digitally, such as a better resolution (HDTV), better audio, colour, and extra feature.

2011 - When Malta is doing the change to digital.

Radio and TV broadcasting:

Both TV and radio as considered to be two  of the largest inventions of the 20th Centuary. For both technical, qualities and cultural effects.

Today, TV apart from showcasting film and music had pioneered:

Reality TV, Shows, Drama, News.

All the latter examples of broadcasts are still being shaped today, especially wih the emergence of new media.

Both have given a large push to the music industry (ex: MTV), revolutioning the way we listen to and perceive music.

Both have also generated a lot of advertising revenue and have been a great political too, espacially the radio during the WW II

Onwership and Funding in TV and Film:

Types of organisations include

Public, Commercial, Multinational, Independent, Voluntary, Community.
